Scotland Trial

The Scottish Korfball Association (SKA) is pleased to announce trials for this year's Scottish National Korfball Squad. In contrast to last year, all players eligible by the official IKF rules are invited to attend the trials, i.e.:

- All players who are resident in Scotland;
- All players who were born in Scotland; and
- All players who have a parent or grandparent born in Scotland.

It is envisaged that open trials for the Scottish National Korfball Squad will be held every year, with the strongest squad chosen to represent Scotland in a range of international tournaments.

For the upcoming year, the main aim for the SKA is to select the strongest possible squad for the Commonwealth Games and Friends Tournament, to be held in the first week of July 2008 in South Africa, although the squad will compete in other tournaments and ‘friendlies’ leading up to South Africa. The SKA are in the process of trying to secure funding and sponsorship to help cover some of the costs for the trip to South Africa, and are hoping to be a competitive side vying for the top positions.

The trials will be held on Saturday the 2nd of February 2008, from 11am until 3pm, in the Jack Kane Sports Centre (208 Niddrie Mains Road, EH16 4ND), one week after the Edinburgh University International Tournament. Trials will cost £10 to attend, which are to be paid on the day.

Training sessions following the trials will be held over a Saturday and Sunday, minimizing the need for travel. Training dates will be announced soon.

The SKA is also pleased to announce the appointment of Beth Bennett as national coach. Over the last three years, Beth has successfully coached Nottingham City 1 in the National League, including two consecutive fourth places in the last two seasons.
