What is Korfball - Introduction

The aim of korfball is to put a ball through a basket. There’s more to it than that though...

The ball is the same size as a size 5 football. The basket is held by a post, 3.5 m high (quite tall) without a backboard. This allows the game to be played around the back of the basket.

Even as a beginner the sport is fun, fast and friendly, the basic rules can be picked up quickly. To play the game all you need to be able to do is catch, throw and run! As soon as you have these few basic skills you can start enjoying a game of korfball. Click here for an more in-depth beginners guide to the game.

Korfball is a team sport, the ultimate team sport. It requires the co-operation of the whole team of 4 men and 4 women, and as you will have to work hard for your team mates it keeps you fit and is a very sociable sport.

Korfball can be played throughout the year. Training between September and May is taken indoors at David Lloyd Tennis Centre, Glasgow Road, just before Maybury Roundabout.

The korfballing community is growing throughout the country and internationally. Edinburgh City Korfball Club is part of this international community and travels to tournaments all over the country and abroad.
